FriendshipI've been thinking alot about this group of people called friends. When we start any friendship or make new friends, we try so hard to leave a good impression or make a connection with the other party. Gradually, thereafter, it is up to both parties to initiate further contact. I wonder when one first meets a new person, summing them up as potential friends, what is the first thing that comes to mind? How that person can help u or how you can 'use' that person? I hope not. Someone once told me that when people become friends, they take advantage of each other all the time. In some sense, its true but i hate to believe that this is the absolute truth.
For one, it is hard to measure friendship or any human relationship for that matter. Sometimes friendships turn into one sided affairs where a person tries their best to keep in touch or go out of their way to do everything for their friend. There must be a point in time when they question themselves if it has been worthwhile. Is something done only because it is worthwhile? Then their intentions to pursue this friendship wasn't genuine and sincere in the first place. Though one can argue that the receipient is at fault for not keeping up or is less enthusiastic. It is inevitable that friends come and go in one's life. You just gotta accept that. Friends from the past may jolly well reappear one day, friends whom you've known forever may suddenly disappear and never to be contacted again. Life is just so unpredicable.
I wonder what sort of friend i am in other's eyes. Am i a good or bad friend? I could have saved some friendships but i think i was just tired, tired of being the one who always tried. This may sound egoistic but why me? Why do i feel like i'm the one who's taking the initiative? Maybe its time i re-evaluate my purpose of having friends. If i am to expect something in return for my friendship, then i may end up losing more than i expected.
